As a part of the PSHEE programme, Secondary students enjoyed their second 'Wellness Day' on Thursday last week with the themes of gratitude and giving back to others. Entitled 'Thankful Thursday' all students from Year 7 to 13 had a day off the regular timetable in order to participate in multiple activities of their choosing based on themes of giving to self, the environment/animals, community and family. Once again they documented their day through videos, write-ups, photos, audio files and many other creative outputs showing just how thoughtful and resourceful Park Lane students are.
Some students chose to give back to others through baking cookies for friends or neighbours, bought groceries for elderly relatives, spent time contacting relatives and grandparents, wrote helpful articles or recorded podcasts for other children stuck at home, cleaned their family's homes or cooked meals, checked in on lonely friends (over Zoom), wrote thank you letters/notes/emails, and many other outputs!
Students also spent time on more thoughtful activities, journaling, spending time in nature, creating mindfulness jars or crafts, reading, going on virtual adventures, reflecting and expressing gratitude for all they have!
The contributions were truly outstanding and inspiring for teachers to see what a positive, funny and creative group of students we have in our community.
After a difficult decision-making process, the following students were identified as the 'winners' for the overall best interpretation of the activities, creativity and enthusiasm.
Y7 - Marissa D.
Y8 - Barbara H.
