Information Technology

IT for learning

At Park Lane we believe that IT should be at the forefront of education from Nursery through to Year 13. This is why we continuously invest in top of the range hardware, software and online subscriptions to challenge our pupils’ ever-developing skills.

At both school sites, our classrooms are equipped with top-of-the-range interactive whiteboards with fully integrated high quality data projectors. Our state-of-the-art Smartboards are connected to Apple Mac computers, including MacBook Air and MacBook Pro. We have recently taken delivery of seven new iMacs, five of which have been installed in our Prague 6 (Norbertov) campus classrooms with the other two assigned to our Prague 1 library.

We have also purchased a set of iPads to supplement children’s enjoyment of learning in the Primary school. We have additionally acquired a new set of digital cameras, which further enhance our pupils visual learning experiences and enable us to upload high quality images to our 'Fronter' Virtual Learning Environment (VLE).

In each campus we have a ‘Mac trolley’ containing a set of 18 MacBooks for the use of our Primary pupils while our Secondary students each have a MacBook for use at school and at home. While most of our secondary pupils’ MacBooks are purchased by their parents, some members of Years 7-9 borrow their MacBooks from the school.

Recent IT acquisitions include a Smartboard compatible ‘visualiser’ for each campus and the Lego Mindstorm Robot, a ‘next generation’ product which enables students to build, programme and test their ideas using robotics technology. The computers used for these robots allow the pupils to not only customise, control and command movement but also utilise a variety of sensors to provide a range of data. The sensors use sound, touch and colour to provoke data collection or reaction and the pupils work collaboratively to fix any mistakes along the way.

As a natural development from our prior use of the Lego Mindstorm Robot, we have recently started a Robotics club as part of our extracurricular provision and have invested in a set of Sphero balls to use as programmable robots throughout the primary school The sphero balls are proving to be a great acquisition for the school, particularly considering their current usage within the new Star Wars film! We are also developing our use of augmented realities within the school to help our classrooms and learning come alive.

We believe that our ongoing investment in IT will help our pupils to be as well primed as possible for future developments in the ever-widening field of Information and communication technology.
