CAS at Park Lane 2020

“If you believe in something, you must not just think or talk or write, but must act.”
(Peterson 2003)

CAS (Creativity, Activity and Service) is a core component of the IB Diploma Programme. Together with TOK (Theory of Knowledge) and EE (Extended Essay), CAS creates and represents the soul of the whole holistic IBDP.

The CAS programme is the most practical part of the IB study, where the students are encouraged to discover more about themselves, what excites them, what their passions are and how they can develop those interests and turn them into lifelong pursuits while also learning new skills. Students are encouraged to become a part of the local community and help where needed.

As a school with a fully embedded IB programme; we provide a wide range of opportunities for students to start their own CAS experiences and projects.

Our students are encouraged to take part in many projects such as PLIS MUN, Smile charity, Park Lane Radio, cooperation with Post Bellum, Duke of Edinburgh award, art charity project, blogging, and many others.
PL teachers from different departments support our students by leading them to learn new skills by providing areas for CAS experiences such as Maths tutoring, IT club, Chess club and Reading club.

Our students are also independently choosing creative, service and activity experiences such as cooking, learning new languages, running, touch typing, programming, yoga, helping their neighbours during the pandemic, tutoring students in need etc.

The current time period isn’t easy for anybody; we are forced to face, on a daily basis, many challenges and life changing situations but PL IB students are showing great commitment and perseverance and with each new CAS experience and project they are growing personally and gaining a whole range of new skills. They maintain resilience and are becoming role models and a real inspiration for all in PL younger years.

As CAS coordinator, I have a unique opportunity to see each day how students are becoming inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who will help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect; which makes me feel infinitely proud and happy to be a part of the whole process.
