I originate from Northeast England but have lived in Prague for eleven years with my young family. My postgraduate teacher training was at Goldsmiths’ College, London University. My more than twenty years practice began in Further Education and in Sixth Form Colleges. I was at the English College in Prague for ten years where, as Assistant Head, I implemented their MIS, assessment and school report systems. I have also been an examinations’ officer with Cambridge and Edexcel and am a seasoned ISI team inspector.
Teaching offers the opportunity to shape minds and build skills that help pupils to get the most from life and the opportunities it offers. I enjoy teaching experientially where pupils investigate and discover for themselves as part of guided tasks and projects. Computer Studies offers pupils yet another chance to think creatively as well as logically and it is these aspects of computational thinking that inform my teaching as well as being essential skills for this digital age.
Park Lane is an exciting new and growing school that wants all members of its community to grow and develop. This applies not only to pupils but also to teachers. This fits very well with my own philosophy of teaching that learning never stops and that we are here to strive to achieve our best. PL offers the nurturing learning environment that brings out the best in people. My approach is to be open and genuine with pupils in guiding them and supporting them with their computing tasks and projects. In the way I take pride in the achievements of each of my three daughters, I take the same pride in seeing my pupils learn and apply new knowledge.
