Year 1C Trip February 2012
On Wednesday 29.2.2012, Year 1C braved the threatening rain and headed to Střešovická street to survey traffic. We observed lots of cars and some vans, buses and trams. Our conclusion was that there is a lot of traffic on the main road and that the streets around our school have less traffic. After that, we walked around Střešovice and discovered that there is a museum, shop, playground, church and sports hall very near to our school. We loved playing on the playground equipment and working out which ones bounce, spin and turn and which ones stay stable, so that we can play safely on them. Finally, we explored the local 'potraviny' and bought some yummy muffins for snack time. We hada great day and were lucky that it didn't rain! |

Year 1R Trip Februrary 2012
On Monday 27.2.2012 Y1R went on the tram to Letna Park! We explored the playground equipment and tested our predictions about how they moved. We also looked at their structures, what they were made of and how they are joined together. On the way back we had a look at some of the buildings around the school as we are also learning about our local area. |

Year 1 Term 3 January 2012
Year One have started off Term 3 by investigating materials and homes. The cold weather hasn’t stopped us going out and we have loved discovering the local area on foot and discussing the shape, size and materials of the homes around our area. We are now reading the well-known fairy tale ‘The Three Little Pigs’ who built their own homes from straw, sticks and bricks. The children enjoyed role-playing the story and chanting the lines using high-pitched and deep, gruff voices for the different characters. Year One are working so hard to read, read, read and all the teachers are happy with their effort and progress. Well done Year 1!Finally, in Numeracy, English coins have fascinated the children and they are starting to recognise and sort them by size, colour and value. |

Year 1R trip to Prague Castle
On Wednesday 18th January Year 1R had a very exciting trip to Prague Castle, where we visited Golden Lane and were able to talk about old and new homes and what they are made of. Some of the castle is made of stone and some of brick. We think stone is stronger than brick. We were all very tired by the end, but we all learned lots and it was really fun! |

Year 1B Trip to the Old Town
To consolidate our units about 'Barnaby Bear' and 'Eating fruit and Vegetables' we visited the Old Town on Wednesday, November 2nd. First we stopped at the Bakeshop where we saw lots of delicious food being prepared. We were very lucky to be able to make some chocolate chip cookies.Whilst they were baking, we looked where Gummy Bear (Year 1 B's class bear) had visited in the Old Town. We were real risk takers when we climbed to the top of the Town hall tower. The view was amazing! On the way back to the bus we collected our chocolate chip cookies and returned to school. What a fun day. |

Year 1C Trip to the Old Town
Year 1C enjoyed some glorious sunshine whilst out and about in Prague on October 3rd 2011. First, we set our fingers to work by adding some healthy strawberries and blueberries to muffin dough at Bakeshop Praha. Then, while the muffins baked, we explored the inside of the beautiful Old Town Hall and learned how many years ago, people lived with the danger of fire and floods in Prague. The children really enjoyed the excursion and, as we walked through the Old Town Square one of the children was heard to say, "This place is really beautiful"! For more photos from the trip see our photo gallery. |
